Christmas party games for friends and family

Christmas means a full living room, people of every age and a TV that's on anyway. That's what Snazzlebop is built for: one screen for the board, everyone's phone as a controller, and a scoreboard that runs across the whole evening.

During the festive season the site has seasonal looks for your profile, too, free to claim while the event runs.

The best games for it

Setting up for a full house

Plug a laptop into the TV, open a room and switch the laptop to TV mode. Nobody installs anything: everyone else types the five-letter code on their phone. Grandparents who would rather not use a phone can team up with someone who does.

Start with something everyone can do straight away, such as trivia in teams, and save the longer games, like Property Tycoon, for when the youngest have gone to bed.

A Christmas show night

Build a show with three or four games, say Trivia Tonight, Would You Rather and Frenemy Radar, and finish with the Jackpot round. At the end the show hands out awards and plays a highlight reel. Save Draw Telephone and the board games for between shows.

Relatives who would rather watch can join as the audience: they react, predict who wins and vote for the MVP.

Questions

Can we play with family who aren't with us?

Yes. Anyone with the room code can join from anywhere, so relatives far away can play along over a video call.
